Geek Duffy

Duffy is a "music geek".

The 'Mercy' singer has to learn the history behind her favourite records because she is so obsessed with music.

She said: "I was quite isolated growing up but now I'm a bit of a music geek. I love discovering things and finding out what stemmed from where and what went on in this era, and how that had an effect, and how people reacted in that time.

"How was it the first time you heard David Bowie's 'The Man Who Sold The World'? What was that like? It's amazing."

Duffy, who has been compared to a young Dusty Springfield, has also revealed she was unsure about which direction she wanted to take her music in when she first started singing.

The 23-year-old star said: "I didn't know what I wanted at first, when I was about 19. I couldn't articulate it, but I knew I wanted this huge, lush sound, this grandness. I wanted something extreme."
