When we’re on tour, breakfast depends on where we’re staying. If we’re in a B&B I might get a cooked breakfast, but if we’re in a flat with a kitchen we’ll stock up on Weetabix, bread and fruit juice – things we have at home.

I usually bring my Tupperware with me and make some rice or pasta to take to the theatre, with tomatoes, celery, lettuce and some ham or feta cheese. If I don’t have access to a kitchen, I’ll buy a salad bowl from Marks & Spencer. I eat dinner as soon as rehearsals finish at 5.30pm, so that by the time I go on stage at 7.30pm I’m still full but I don’t feel heavy. Playing Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream burns up a lot of energy, and if I didn’t have that rice or pasta in me I’d never get through it.

I always have a bag of nuts or some fruit to snack on during the day, and chocolate is nice to have after my meal. If it’s somebody’s birthday we might go out for a drink after the show, but nobody gets completely bladdered – it’s just not practical with a show the next day. (interview by Kelly Apter)
