Jumper

Jumper (12A) 88min ••• Mildly interesting adaptation of Steven Gould’s hit sci-fi books about people called ‘jumpers’ who can transport themselves through time and space. Doug Liman (Mr and Mrs Smith, Swingers) directs with his usual admirable energy. Hayden Christensen proves that there is life after Star Wars in the lead with good support from Samuel L Jackson and Jamie Bell.
General release from Thu 14 Feb.

Gamerz (15) 101min ••• Niche, enjoyably geeky coming of age relationship comedy set in one of Scotland’s Dungeons and Dragons gaming communities.

Escape from Luanda (12A) 72min ••• Moving documentary which follows three impoverished Angolan music students as their prepare for the end of year concert at the country’s only music school. Director Phil Grabsky (In Search of Mozart, The Boy Who Plays on the Buddhas of Bamiyan) is in town for the Afghanistan film festival so will be on hand to answer questions about this film at the screening on Wednesday 27 February.
