Sheryl Crow

Janet Jackson - Discipline (Mercury) The youngest of the Jackson brood is back with über-slick R&B pop. She’s already stated she’s covering no new ground, which will save us expecting some kind of jazz metal style reinvention then, eh?

Pete and the Pirates - Little Death (Stolen) All the way from Reading Town, Pete and the Pirates punt a brand of rattling indie bolshiness that recalls the trebly whine of 50s rock’n’roll beneath a veneer of contemporary indie pouting.

Sebastien Tellier - Sexuality (Lucky Number) Arch, French saucepot Seb’s great records remain undervalued this side of the English Channel but he deserves ample affection for his inspired post-Gainsbourg, post-Tom Waits flourishes.

Sheryl Crow - Detours (A&M) For her sixth album Crow reunites with Bill Bottrell, the writer/ producer with whom she knocked together her breakthrough debut Tuesday Night Music Club. Far from the anticipated mournful break-up album, this is less self-conscious and wilful than she’s sounded in ages.

The Feeling - Join With Us (Island) A prime example of how pop music has clearly gone to the bloody dogs with this band’s very long playing collection of anodyne stinkers.
