POST ROCK
Post rockers tend to take themselves mighty seriously (our own lovable Mogwai aside), and the same goes for po-faced Leicestershire young guns Kyte. There is plenty of ambition here, and the band are unashamedly epic in an obviously Death Cab kinda way, but there is also something workmanlike about their big sweeping guitars and portentous arrangements which rather puts you off. A hint of electronica in the mix tends to liven up the likes of ‘Sunlight’ and ‘Home’, but elsewhere the intended showstoppers lack the bite and drive of, say, ‘Mogwai Fear Satan’ or Sigur Ros at their magisterial best.
