ELECTRONICA
Electronica is surely the most widespread genre possible, given that all it takes is a laptop and imagination. So it proves on this collection, which features 16 unsigned artists from around the world put together by an Edinburgh label after discovery on MySpace.
Musicians from Japan to Finland to Serbia do their eclectic things, and while it’s hit and miss, and occasionally overly-obscure, there’s enough quality here to warrant close attention. Among the many highlights are the epic soundscapes of Limbic Somnus and the plaintive Mum-esque melodies of Linda Bjalla, but pretty much everything here is at least worth a listen.
