Born from an unabashed love of DIY music scenes and a totally understandable distaste for tired Libertines copycats such as The Kooks, Pigeon Detectives and The View, Los Campesinos! hope to offer music fans something genuinely exciting and different. And with Hold on Now, Youngster . . . they’ve done it, this frantic, snappy debut simply fizzing with bold ideas and unforgettable melodies, with songs like ‘Don’t Tell Me to Do the Math(S)’, ‘Broken Hearts Sound Like Breakbeats’ and ‘You! Me! Dancing!’ all puncturing a hole in all that is stagnant about the current music scene. 2008 is shaping up to be the year that new bands deliver on some big promises, and this infectious record is only the beginning . . .
