COMEDY
With its sweet soul and crumbly heart, you’d think that Eagle vs Shark would only be fit for shooting out of the sky or being drowned at birth. But in the hands of writer/director Taika Waititi and leads Loren Horsley and Jemaine Clement (the speccy sideburned one from Flight of the Conchords), this quirky Kiwi comedy hits all the right keys.
Lily and Jarrod are a pair of social misfits who succeed in finding each other, but his obsession with a Samoan who bullied him at school, his longing for a dead brother and a facility for brutal lie-telling threatens to destabilise their futures. Some decent DVD extras such as mildly illuminating cast and crew interviews, deleted scenes, a somewhat cheeky Flight of the Conchords trailer and a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s pivotal mouse wheel sequence only add to the pleasure.
