British Sea Power have never been known for their traditional approach to music-making – plastic birds, fake foliage and a ten foot bear have come into the equation at various points – so it comes as no surprise that third effort Do You Like Rock Music? was recorded rather unconventionally amidst ice storms, snapping telegraph lines, wild boar and an impromptu appearance from a Chinook helicopter. This eventful recording schedule clearly suits them, however, as it has resulted in the Brighton foursome’s most impressive work to date, with each track on this gargantuan record fizzing with searing guitars, soaring strings, rumbling rhythms and the type of melancholy melodies which creep into your subconscious from first listen. An absolute triumph.
