SOUL

Despite this record’s dreadful title, Nathaniel Slade aka THAN certainly has a way with pretty ditties. The Bristol-born singer-songwriter and Britpop survivor now resides in Edinburgh and recorded this debut effort with roots-fusion band The Ruffness, so each smoky soulful vocal-led effort is peppered with warm harmonies, pianos, horns and organs all beautifully complementing his acoustic guitar-based ballads.

Those who like their music a little gritty should keep well clear, but music fans partial to a spot of laid-back listening would do much better to invest in this to keep that new Jose Gonzalez album company in the CD rack.
