Frontman Tim Kasher is a central figure of the Saddle Creek scene, and this established side project is an outlet for a more mainstream sound, contrasting his day job with the explosive Cursive. Unfortunately, while much of Help Wanted Nights is solid enough indie fare, rather a lot of it treads on labelmates Bright Eyes’ toes, tracks like ‘Your Share of Men’ sounding like Oberst’s mundane cast-offs. It’s a shame, because when he strikes out on his own, like in the simple pop of ‘Heartbroke’ or the plaintive sorrow of ‘You Don’t Feel Like Home to Me’, Kasher proves himself to be a talented and moving songwriter.
