Following a slew of successful exhibitions, the National Galleries of Scotland have announced the recent purchase of two ‘Glasgow School’ pictures from the private collection of Andrew McIntosh Patrick. In collaboration with The Art Fund, the Galleries have made two grant-aided purchases, ‘A Cabbage Garden’ (1877) by Arthur Melville and ‘A Herd Boy’ (1886) by EA Walton. The aquisition of these pieces builds upon the Galleries’ previous acquisitions of three masterpieces from the McIntosh Patrick collection in 1999. McIntosh Patrick, the former Managing Director of The Fine Art Society began collecting the work of the Glasgow Boys in the late 1960s.
