Beck almost threatened to outshine Radiohead in this triumphant support slot. The atmosphere was that of an upbeat funk party complete with dancing bears, cutlery as instruments and puppets galore. For once the flourishes didn’t feel like gimmicks but added to the audio-visual impact, a short film involving the band’s puppet selves running amok through Edinburgh was a bizarre and genuinely funny highlight. Add to that classics like ‘Loser’, ‘Devil’s Haircut’ as well as set closer and recent single ‘E-Pro’ and you come away with the impression that Beck is one of the most consistently entertaining performers out there, oozing charm and killer tunes with equal ease.
