Former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren was set to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Rotten and take on the Australian jungle for ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

But he pulled out of the competition in the 11th hour, amid claims he simply ‘got cold feet’.

A spokesman for ITV commented: ‘He flew 5,000 miles to take part but on the day they were due to go into the jungle he changed his mind.’

Former Six Pistol John Lydon took part in I’m A Celebrity in 2004, but walked just hours after being told off for swearing on the live show.

Among the remaining nine contestants is supermodel Janice Dickinson, football pundit Rodney Marsh, one-time Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson and former Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews.

The first show airs tonight.
