Warhol’s Liz portrait to fetch $25m under the hammer
A portrait of Dame Elizabeth Taylor by Andy Warhol is expected to fetch more than $25 million when it goes under the hammer in New York.
It is reported that the 1963 portrait - simply entitled Liz - currently belongs to British actor Hugh Grant.
The image is one of 12 created by the artist while Dame Elizabeth was recovering from an illness.
A new record was set for a Warhol original in May when the 1963 painting Green Car Crash (Green Burning Car 1) was sold for £36.3 million.
The painting, which shows an overturned car on fire, beat the previous record set last November after a portrait of Chairman Mao sold for $17.4 million.
