Oxfam launches Christmas present campaign

Dame Helen Mirren and Will Young are among the stars to feature in Oxfam’s Christmas campaign this year.

The charity’s Unwrapped campaign features a television advert in which the stars will promote giving gifts that will improve the lives of people living in developing countries.

Highlighting the number of unwanted gifts received each Christmas, Oxfam is publicising an alternative gift range, which offers the likes of fertiliser, medicine and school books.

Oxfam ambassador Helena Bonham Carter said: ‘Oxfam Unwrapped is a novel idea where you can buy friends and relatives presents that really make a difference to other people’s lives.

‘Why buy someone something they don’t want or need – like a flapping, singing fish?

‘The gifts are life-changing – that’s serious – but Oxfam Unwrapped is fun too.’
