Pumpkins out: Neeps in - it’s a Very Scottish Halloween
Pumpkins have been banned from a Halloween festival at Scone Palace, as organisers shun ‘American big business and rampant consumerism’.
The Very Scottish Halloween event this weekend (27-28 October) will instead involve a neepie lantern competition, made with traditional Scottish turnips.
The festival will include dooking for apples, as well as a screening of A Tale O’ Twa Stanes - a short film about a Templar Knight who guarded the Stone of Destiny for more than 700 years.
Jock Ferguson of Herald Events sent the anti-commercialism message home: ‘We will be having none of that pumpkin or trick-or-treat rubbish.
‘Pumpkins are banned and will not be allowed beyond the front gates.’
