• Gail Porter The Edinburgh-born media star drops by for a book signing as she unveils her autobiography, Laid Bare, which chronicles the many psychological and physical battles she’s endured over the last decade. Waterstone’s, Edinburgh, Thu 25 Oct.

• Jackie Stewart Another Scottish icon with a memoir speeding at us. The racing driver legend produces Winning is Not Enough which details his trials and tribulations on and off the track. Waterstone’s, Leith, Edinburgh, Sat 20 Oct; Royal Concert Hall & Borders Books, Glasgow, Wed 24 Oct.

• Scottish International Storytelling Centre This year’s beanfeast includes Alexander McCall Smith, the Guid Crack Hallowe’en Night, Highland Legacies and a whole range of African-themed events. Various venues, Edinburgh, Fri 26 Oct–Sun 4 Nov.

• Joel Stickley & Luke Wright The daft textual world that revolves around us is the source for this collaboration between the Aisle 16 guys. Hamish Hamilton.

• Rosemary Goring The Herald book guru produces Scotland: The Autobiography which looks at the evolution of the nation through the eyes of those who have lived through it. Viking.

• Nicolas De Crécy In Glacial Period, this former colleague of Sylvain Chomet brings us a cryptic tale about some explorers stumbling upon a mystical building isolated in a future ice age. NBM/Comics Lit.

• Steve Niles & Ben Templesmith With 30 Days of Nights hitting the cinemas soon, here’s your chance to get acquainted with the scary vampires of Barrow, Alaska. IDW.
