French honour for Crouching Tiger actress Yeoh

The actress Michelle Yeoh has been made a ‘Knight’ of the Legion of Honour at a ceremony in Malaysia.

The star of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Tomorrow Never Dies was presented the award in Kuala Lumpur by French ambassador to Malaysia, Alain du Boispean.

He said: “By conferring the highest distinction, France would like to pay a special tribute to your outstanding performing talent, to the exceptional place you occupy in the multiple worlds of cinema – be they Asian martial arts, Hollywood or international cinema.”

Yeoh received the award for her involvement with charitable organisations around the world, including AIDS Concern Hong Kong, Brain Centre Foundation and Save China’s Tigers.

The former Miss Malaysia, who is well known for performing her own stunts in films, said: “I really share this award with fellow Malaysians not just in France but also in Malaysia.”
