A Scottish film has won the top award at a French festival designed to promote British cinema across the Channel.

The director of Hallam Foe, David Mackenzie, was joined by producer Gillian Berrie to accept the Hitchcock d’Or at the Festival du Film Britannique in Brittany.

The film, which stars Jamie Bell, Sophie Myles and Ciaran Hinds, opened this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Mackenzie said: 'There was a fantastic response to the film here and the prize tops it all.

'I hope that the reaction will mean the film finds a French distributor who will be prepared to release it over here.'

Hallam Foe has already won a host of awards, including the Silver Bear in Berlin for its music and an international critics’ award at Croatia’s Motovun Film Festival.
