Ewan McGregor honours bomb disposal expert in Iraq

Scottish actor Ewan McGregor travelled to Iraq to present the only female bomb disposal expert working in the country with her Pride of Britain Award.

Staff Sgt Michelle Cunningham was put forward for the award by the army after singlehandedly putting out a fire at an explosives factory in Hampshire.

The 32-year-old’s actions prevented hundreds of explosives from igniting.

McGregor visited Basra air base to present the award and said he was amazed by her bravery.

'It’s important that we should pay tribute to Michelle and people like her who are prepared to put their lives in danger for others because, let’s face it, we all rely on them.

'And how many of us can match their bravery?'

The awards ceremony will be broadcast Wednesday (10/10) at 9pm on ITV.
