Home Again (Heavenly)
Although recorded prior to his near fatal double cerebral haemorrhage in 2005, Edwyn Collins’ sixth solo long player can’t help but resonate more poignantly in light of everything the ex-Orange Juice frontman has been through.
At one stage he looked unlikely to speak again, let alone let rip with that trademark baritone. ‘Home Again’ proves just how tragic losing a voice like Collins’ would have been; by casting an eerily timely glance back over his evolution from soulful white boy to hip-shaking bluesy rocker, with crystalline charm and wit. It’s a great record – one that’s all the more special for being a milestone on his road to recovery, rather than an untimely epitaph. (Malcolm Jack)
