Ringo Starr to open Liverpool Capital of Culture

Ringo Starr will join the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart and Ian Broudie from the Lightning Seeds in a concert to mark Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year.

The opening ceremony will be held at the new King’s Dock arena, and will precede a year of cultural events.

The 2008 Calendar, which includes an exhibition of Gustav Klimt’s work at the Tate Liverpool, will be announced in full today.

TV impresario and Hollyoaks creator Phil Redmond has been appointed as the creative force behind the city’s year of culture.
