Roman Polanski has walked away from the $100 million adaptation of Robert Harris’ Pompeii.

The Polish director apparently asked for his ‘liberty’ from the project which had already been sold to distributors around the globe and producer Robert Benmussa has grudgingly agreed.

The producers insist the production is still very much alive and that the only reason they’ve halted all prep on the movie is that they’re looking for another director.

Jan De Bont. It simply has to be him. “It’s like Speed, but with a volcano and set in 79BC. But like Speed nonetheless.”
