Oops I did it again: Britney’s comeback flop
Troubled pop star Britney Spears gave a disappointing performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, after a three year hiatus.
Billed as her ‘long awaited comeback’, the singer performed her new single Gimme More dressed in a black sequined bikini and knee high boots.
The 25-year-old was slated for a lacklustre effort and the fact she mimed to a backing track.
“She blew it,” said US gossip columnist Perez Hilton. “Everyone knows Britney lip-syncs, but that’s because she dances so much. She barely even danced in this. It was so bad. It was painful. It was embarrassing.
“And I loved it!”
Justin Timberlake took home four awards, including best male artist. Female of the year went to Fergie, while Rihanna won a statuette for Monster Single of the Year and best video for her summer hit Umbrella.
