BBC One named channel of the year

BBC One has been named terrestrial channel of the year at the Edinburgh TV Festival, despite recent scandals such as the controversial Queen trailer and rigged phone in competitions.

The corporation also took the best programme award for Doctor Who, selected from a shortlist by almost 200 young people, an accolade which producer Phil Collinson said was “a particular honour”.

Doctor Who beat Life on Mars, Planet Earth and E4’s Skins to take best drama.
