The second series of BBC hit Robin Hood will see more torture scenes and love affairs in a bid to compete with the success of Doctor Who. Robin Hood 2 will again feature Jonas Armstrong as the hero, with the writers moving from small battles with the Sheriff of Nottingham to the fight for England.

An executive for the show, Foz Allan, said Armstrong was prepared for the role. “In the first series, he was growing between a boy and a man. Now Jonas has beefed up quite a lot and is definitely a man. It is good because in the fighting scenes we don’t want him to be some superhero. We want it to look like he could do it all himself.”

The first series of Robin Hood saw an average of 6.6 million viewers tune in, after an initial peak of 8.5 million.
