MTV to take on iTunes

MTV Networks has signed a deal with RealNetworks and Verizon in a bid to topple iTunes from the digital download top spot.

MTV will merge its Urge digital music store with RealNetworks’ Rhapsody subscription service to form Rhapsody America.

Rob Glaser, chief executive of RealNetworks, said: ‘The pieces are such that we think one plus one, plus one equals big – certainly more than three.’
