Eat, sleep and breathe: Jenny O
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter reveals her on-the-road eating habits
What time is breakfast?
Usually 8 or 9am for an early drive. As soon as I wake up I want breakfast.
Tea or coffee?
Coffee.
Smoking or non-smoking?
No cigarettes except every couple years I am in Rome or Paris and then I will buy a half-pack to flick around and be romantic about it.
Sweet or savoury snacks?
One of each. We must also distinguish fruity-sweet from gooey-sweet. One of each.
What food do you miss when you tour?
Fresh vegetables and healthy home-cooking.
Who’s the best cook you know?
That’s tough – I know quite a few. My friend Niko, perhaps, because he has the best garden and no refrigerator. Everything he makes is delicious and heartwarming.
What’s on your rider?
Raw vegetables and hummus, whisky. I don’t even like hummus. I never know what to put on there because I don’t want someone driving around looking for a burrito containing zucchini and kale … though that’s what I’d like every day. Veggie burrito. Hold the lifeless lettuce and genetically modified tomatoes.
Which country/city has the best food?
Italy and Japan. I love Mexican food in Los Angeles, although I haven’t spent enough time in Mexico to understand the source.
Do you eat out a lot?
Yes.
Do you drink onstage?
Yes.
Jenny O plays Wickerman, Dumfriesshire, Fri 20 Jul and Nice ‘n’ Sleazy, Glasgow, Thu 2 Aug.
