Attic Lights and The Primary 5

Indie schmindie never sounded so good

It was only last year that Glasgow fivesome Attic Lights climbed down the stairs from the attic where they’d been honing their big guitarry sound – a power pop blend of 60s Beach Boys harmonies and gently melodic Americana – and finally stepped outside. After gigging around T in the Park, Belladrum and Manchester’s In the City, they headed back indoors to work on a debut album, which will be ready early next year.

Produced by indie songwriter and head of Shoeshine Records, Francis MacDonald, it should contain some of the dreamy romance of Camera Obscura and Teenage Fanclub, with added facial hair (all five Attic Lights sport a beard). They’re joined here by sunshiney rock popsters, The Primary 5, formed by drummer Paul Quinn after leaving Teenage Fanclub. A poor choice for those who like angry, sweaty rucks, this is more likely to be a chiming, chirpy night of mellow summer noise. (Claire Sawers)
