Sweden won last night's (26.05.12) Eurovision Song Contest, with Great Britain's Engelbert Humperdinck coming second-to-last.

Engelbert Humperdinck came second-to-last in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The veteran crooner - who opened last night's (26.05.12) annual musical spectacular in Baku, Azerbaijan, with his ballad 'Love Will Set You Free' - scored just 12 points, putting Great Britain ahead only of last-placed Norway.

Despite his disappointing score, Engelbert, 76, enjoyed the experience.

He said after his performance: "I had a great time, a very wonderful time. I hope everyone listening to the song... we shared the song with every generation. I sang it from my heart."

Following the result, he added: "I've had many highs in my career and Eurovision has been a wonderful experience.

"I did the best for my country, the rest was out of my hands."

Sweden were this year's victors, with hotly-tipped Loreen's dance track 'Euphoria' scoring an impressive 372 points.

She said afterwards: "I want to say that I love you so much. Thank you for believing in me."

In second place were Buranovskiye Babushki - the six-strong group nicknamed The Russian Grannies - with 'Party for Everyone'.

Meanwhile, Ireland's Jedward - former 'X Factor' stars John and Edward Grimes - failed to improve on last year's eighth place and came in 19th after their performance of 'Waterline'.
