Arg: TOWIE caused my split from Lydia
James 'Arg' Argent believes the "stresses" of starring in 'The Only Way Is Essex' were the cause of his split from girlfriend of four years Lydia Bright.
James 'Arg' Argent believes the "stresses" of 'The Only Way Is Essex' were the cause of his split from Lydia Bright.
The 24-year-old reality star - who split from the blonde beauty in January after a four-year on-off romance - explained the couple were always "shattered and irritable" due to the pressure of filming the ITV show.
He said: "The stresses of 'TOWIE' really did affect us. We didn't spend any quality time together. We were always shattered and irritable when we saw each other. We started having petty arguments."
However, Arg believes the problems in their relationship intensified when his best pal Mark Wright quit 'TOWIE' to appear on 'I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!' in the Australian jungle, as he came to "rely too much" on Lydia.
He added in an interview with Now magazine: "When Mark was in Australia, I started to rely too much on Lydia. I wanted to spend every minute of the day with her - I became suffocating. I got more jealous and tried to stop her going out with her friends."
The aspiring singer believes Lydia eventually decided to pull the plug on their relationship for the sake of her career.
Asked whether Lydia thought it would be better for her career to be single, Arg explained: "I did think that. It's hard to know how to word this. Lydia used to feel she wouldn't be on 'TOWIE' if she broke up with me.
"When Mark left, I reckon she started to think that I needed her more than she needed me."
