The Only Way Is Essex's James 'Arg' Argent wishes he had met ex-girlfriend Lydia Bright at an "older age".

The 'Only Way Is Essex' crooner - who has been dating his co-star on and off for over three years - explained while the former couple still "love" each other, he thinks they may have met "too young" for their relationship to work out.

He said: "She says she loves me and I love her but we can't be together right now.

"I think eventually [marriage] would be all I would ever want. I am only 24 though and I'm still young. I do sometimes think we maybe met too young. I maybe wish I had met her at an older age.

"Lydia is my first proper girlfriend ¬ there has been no one else, which makes it even harder."

The 24-year-old reality TV star admitted Lydia's mum Debbie - who also features in 'TOWIE' - is just as devastated about the split because Arg is like "a son" to her.

Arg added in an interview with new! magazine: "Debs loves me so much, I'm part of her family and have been for four years. You can tell that she really loves me and feels like I'm a son to her.

"It's been tough on everyone and she is feeling just as upset about the break-up."
