Nick Berry made a surprise reappearance on 'EastEnders' last night, reprising his role as Simon Wicks for a 15-second cameo to say goodbye to Pat Evans (Pam St. Clement).
Nick Berry made a shock return to 'EastEnders' last night (13.01.11).
The 48-year-old star's character Simon 'Wicksy' Wicks made a surprise reappearance after 22 years away from Albert Square to say goodbye to his mother Pat Evans (Pam St. Clement), who died on New Year's Day (31.12.11).
Last night's episode - which had been extended to 40 minutes - saw the residents of Walford turn out for Pat's funeral and fans had been advised to tune in after the credits for a surprise.
The 15 second cameo - which was shot on Thursday (12.01.11) and still being edited hours before the show began last night - saw a suited Simon arrive at Pat's grave in the dead of night clutching a bouquet of flowers. With tears in his eyes, he said simply 'Goodbye mum' as the show ended.
Nick - who has now retired from acting - was one of the original cast members of the programme, which began in 1985.
He left the show five years later in a storyline which saw Simon emigrate to New Zealand with Ian Beale's wife Cindy, who he had been having an affair with.
Nick then embarked on a brief pop career - scoring a number one hit in 1986 with 'Every Loser Wins' - and then landed a role in ITV drama 'Heartbeat', playing PC Nick Rowan for six years.
