Tulisa Contostavlos feared replacing Cheryl Cole on 'The X Factor' would make her "Britain's most hated woman".
The N-Dubz singer - who mentored winners Little Mix to success - explained having the support of the former panellist made her "a lot more relaxed" about assuming her role on the ITV1 show.
She said: "I could have become Britain's most hated woman by replacing her, but having her support made all the difference.
"She told me there was no bitterness and that I should go for it. That made me a lot more relaxed."
The 23-year-old beauty - who publicly accused controversial 'X Factor' contestant Misha B of being a bully during this year's series - is believed to have doubled her £450,000 salary after impressing show boss Simon Cowell with her no-nonsense attitude.
An insider recently explained: "Tulisa will end up with just shy of a million. She's stuck by Louis Walsh and learnt a few tricks of the trade from him.
"Plus, she sticks to her views. Weaker people might have retracted what she said about Misha B hassling Little Mix to keep things upbeat but she didn't. The producers love her."
