Adrian and Christine to leave Daybreak on Monday
'Daybreak' bosses have brought forward Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley's departure and they will now leave on Monday (05.12.11).
Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles will leave 'Daybreak' on Monday (05.12.11).
It was announced last month that the pair had been axed from the ITV flagship breakfast show, and while they had been expected to depart at Christmas or early in the new year, show chiefs are now to terminate their stint on the programme earlier as there is "nothing to be gained" by keeping them on board.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It was felt that Adrian and Christine were better off out of there now that everyone knows they are going.
"There's nothing to be gained by keeping them on the sofa."
Until a new presenter is found, regular stand-ins, such as Dan Lobb, will take their places on the programme.
However, they may not have to wait long as Natasha Kaplinsky is reportedly close to signing a deal following a string of secret meetings and screen tests with programme bosses who think she will be a hit with viewers.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Natasha looks great and she has the credibility of a being a real hard news broadcaster. Bosses want someone who not only looks good on camera but can really tackle tough news issues and interviews.
"She's also got wide appeal with TV fans after her stint on Strictly Come Dancing."
Channel 5 news presenter Matt Barbet is also in the running for a position on the show.
