MTV nominations announced for Las Vegas ceremony
The 2007 MTV Video Music Awards will see Amy Winehouse represent Britain, as she goes head to head with Beyonce for Female Artist of the Year. Winehouse will also compete with the Destiny’s Child singer for the Best Video award. Lily Allen has also landed a nomination for Best New Artist, up against Winehouse, American Idol Carrie Underwood, Gym Class Heroes and Peter Bjorn & John. Meanwhile Justin Timberlake and Beyonce both show their mettle with seven nominations apiece, followed closely by rapper Kanye West and R&B star Rihanna, who are both up for five awards.
The glitzy ceremony will take place at the Palms Casino report in Las Vegas and boasts several new prize categories, including the ‘quadruple threat award’ recognising artists who have excelled in multiple disciplines such as music, fashion, acting and dance. MTV president Christina Norman commented: “What great nominees! They truly reflect a stellar year in music and videos.”
