FAMILY DRAMA
Following in the footsteps of paedophilia drama Secret Life, this is another related single work which will make you feel pain long after the closing credits have gone. Based on a real case, Forgiven stars Derek Riddell (The Book Group) and Lucy Cohu (Cape Wrath) as seemingly loving parents of two young girls. Except, the dad has been abusing his eldest daughter and is soon excluded from the family home and stuck into a residential therapy clinic for sex offenders where the treatment appears to have a positive effect. Returning home some time later, he attempts to rebuild his relationship with the family but life clearly can never be the same again.
A tough viewing experience with excellent performances all round, Forgiven refuses to take the route of simple condemnation, raising the various potential reasons why such abuse could occur.
