This beloved Irishman is one of the Fringe’s safest bets and here he gives us his take on relationships, where women are monstrous and men are idiots. There’s a drunken tramp who is actually his seven-year-old son and we hear of his clowning embarrassment at the Royal Variety Performance. Shy Pigs, With Wigs, Hidden In the Twigs has relatively staple subjects but, as ever, Byrne invests them with facial contortions, a childlike imagination and other-worldly descriptions.
Assembly Hall, 623 3030, until 27 Aug (not 13, 20), 8.40pm; 26 & 27 Aug, 9.30pm, £13–£14.50 (£12–£13.50).
