• License to Wed (12A) 91min * When lovebirds Sadie (Mandie Moore) and Ben (John Krasinski) become engaged, Reverend Frank (Robin Williams) puts them through a tortuous marriage preparation course to see if they deserve to be married in church. The programme includes couples counselling, bedroom surveillance, and the babysitting of two robotic fake babies while shopping at Macy’s. You would have thought that Williams is now rich enough to be able to avoid starring in sentimental nonsense like this. As uninspired and overblown as the worst kind of traditional English wedding.
General release from Fri 10 Aug

• Rush Hour 3 (12A) 90min ** Chris Tucker has certainly put the pounds on for the third instalment of this jolly, paper thin Kung Fu comedy series. This time Tucker and Jackie Chan hit Paris to battle a wing of the Chinese organised crime family, the Triads. Boasting the same writer/director team as the previous film this is undemanding, silly and occasionally amusing. The stunts are low rent but pretty decent too. No alarms, no surprises.
General release from Fri 10 Aug.

• Taxidermia (18) 94min **** Welcome to the insane world of György Pálfi. Even if you have seen his previous film, Hukkle, a raw, near wordless film about ornery peasant folk, nothing would have prepared you for this. Based on the short stories of Lajos Parti Nagy this scabrous and unforgettable film tells the grotesque tale of three generations of men from WWII to the present day. The grandfather can shoot fire from his penis, the son is an obese speed eater and the grandson is a taxidermist of the unusual. Think Svankmajer, early Lynch and a touch of Tinto Brass and you will be prepared.
GFT, Glasgow from Mon 13 Aug.
