James Corden knew he was a hands-on father when he discovered his seven-month-old son's ''poo'' under his fingernail.

James Corden knew he was a hands-on father when he discovered his son's "poo" under his fingernail.

The 33-year-old actor - who welcomed son Max with partner Julia Carey in March - loves being a dad, but admits fatherhood has made him more careless about his hygiene habits.

He said: "I don't think you're a hands-on dad until you've had your child's poo under your fingernail. Then you can say you're a proper father.

"It's like when I went for a few beers with a mate and hadn't noticed I had sick on my shoulder. This is my life now!

James and Julia initially had trouble coming up with a name for their young son, and the funnyman confessed he almost ended up with a rather unusual moniker.

He added in an interview with Star magazine: "I quite like the name Mister. I thought it would be really cool to call him Mister Corden. We didn't name him for about a week.

"We tried Felix and a few other names, but it became clear that we should call him Max. It's a great name and it felt right."
