Glasgow Science Centre takes a Detour
Ally McRae and David Weaver organise a special event beneath the stars with Remember Remember, Meursault and more
Ever think that science wasn’t cool (despite the well-mannered, be-jumpered protestations of Brian Cox)? Well, Detour Scotland beg to differ. The video makers/radio pesterers/off the wall gig organisers, set up by Radio 1’s Ally McCrae and long-term friend/musical wingman David Weaver, are teaming up with Glasgow Science Centre to put on some innovative shows to mark Capture Space weekend.
The first night of ‘Stellar Sounds’, the culmination of the Centre’s World Space Week celebrations, will be headlined by the ever-burgeoning Remember Remember, playing material from their new album, The Quickening. Support for these layered, hypnotic sounds comes from Miaoux Miaoux, a one-man outfit creating engaging electronica befitting the beautiful surroundings. Sunday sees Glasgow sextet Happy Particles opening for everyone’s folk-electro/high octaine wailers Meursault, fresh from their European tour.
Other activities include workshops on writing lyrics and poetry about space itself, presented by members of Hector Bizerk and Michelle Low of Madison. A rare weekend of events, befitting of both Detour and the fascinating wonder-fest that is space.
