Scary monsters and super peeps dominate the first week

When you say ‘comic’ to a kid they might think of the Beano or Roy of the Rovers (if you’re a kid over 35) but the event with Alan Grant & Cam Kennedy will open up the eyes of teenagers and any young at heart adults in tow. Graphic novels are something which most kids will arrive at eventually and here these two giants of the form will chat about why they took a break from the likes of Batman and Judge Dredd to bring us their acclaimed version of Stevenson’s Kidnapped.

Equally as epic is Where the Wild Things Are, an event based on the iconic book by Maurice Sendak which gives nippers a chance to hear the story and dress up as a scary monster. Opening up the children’s strand to the Book Festival is another legend in Jacqueline Wilson Daydreams. The author of the Tracy Beaker and Werepuppy books will be dipping into her own childhood to reveal where she gets all her ideas from. Perennial favourites and giggling siblings Charlie & Lola will be up to all sorts with a fun party and a craft workshop. Just don’t let Sizzles sneak off with the sausages.
