Union Jack thongs, vandalism and Lambrini

The Debden in which this show is set is the town of David Cameron’s nightmares. Union Jack thongs are flashed, bus stops are vandalised and groups of unemployed teens impregnate each other like Lambrini addled rabbits. In between loitering and repeating the word “innit”, Destiny (Kate Padbury) discovers she is pregnant by her chunky chained half wit of a boyfriend Dan (Darren Godbold) and frets over how to break the news to both him and her BNP activist father (Jason Blackwater). In between looking confused and trying to resist the advances of Destiny’s ‘best friend’ Precious (Cecile Davis), Danny boy and his girl’s father become better acquainted resulting in his further exposure to the simple lies of the party and the promise of employment. With some solid songs and the occasional genuinely amusing moment Chav! It’s a Musical Innit will no doubt please most of the punters that opt to see it. Anyone surprised by what they get from its somewhat worn premise should probably either run squealing to the Traverse or lay off the Lambrini for good. (Miles Johnson)

Underbelly, 0870 745 3083, until 26 Aug (not 13), 11.00pm, £8.50–£9.50 (£7.50–£8.50).
