Play with clay

Ever since Play-Doh took over the pre-school world, few other materials get a look-in. Which is why it’s nice to see somebody championing good old clay. Placing a huge slab of clay centre stage, Steve and Sally, our friendly hosts, show us exactly what the substance is capable of. They stick their fingers in it, stand on it, even drink out of it (and quickly point out how disgusting it tastes).

Then it’s over to the audience to help create a story, with each suggestion cleverly crafted out of clay by talented sculptress, Sally. Aimed at ages 3–6, this is a gentle Fringe show which takes its time, so accompanying adults may struggle to stay engaged. But when Steve invites us all onto the stage to make our own clay object, there’s not a clean hand in the house. (Kelly Apter)
