Gavin Henson's mates were "hysterical" when he told them he would be appearing on 'The Bachelor'.
The 29-year-old rugby star - who will date 25 women in the new Channel 5 show in the hope of finding true love - admitted while his friends found it funny to begin with, they quickly became jealous.
He said: "My friends were hysterical when I first told them. Then, after a while, they said, 'It's amazing - getting to date 25 women!'
"It's the kind of thing you can't turn down if you're a single guy. I'm going into it with genuine reasons. I really want to find a girlfriend and I believe that will happen."
Gavin - who has two children, Ruby, three, and two-year-old Dexter with ex-girlfriend Charlotte Church - explained while he did used to believe in "love at first sight" he has become much more guarded in recent years, which is why the show appealed to him.
He added to new! magazine: "One night is not enough for me to get strong feelings for a girl. There was a time when I did believe in falling in love at first sight. But because of the bad experiences and the way I've been treated in past relationships, I'm much more guarded and that's why the process of this show appealed to me.
"I was getting to a point where I thought, 'I can't be doing with any more heartbreak in a relationship. My parents have been together for 35 years - they've had a great life and it would be a pity for me to be single, so I think it's now or never really."
