We Are Klang

Klangbang opens with the immense Greg Davies prancing around, promising a variety show filled with delights. Soon joined by Marek Larwood and Steve Hall, the crowd quickly realises that it’s in for something special, in all senses of the word. The range of characters is vast; from an evilly funny impression of Tracey Emin, to the ‘Klang Take on the World Insult Championship’. The three balance out each others’ personalities: Davies is the natural leader, bossy and overbearing. Larwood is a born stooge, with an innocent baby face veiling a darker side. Hall seems to be more of ‘the lad’, good looking, gobby and prepared to whip his arse out for a decent gag.

In a Festival where the audience is often jaded and overdosed with humour, the laughs here are constant and warmly honest. The Klangsters tread a very fine line between comedy crudeness and being just plain offensive, but consistently manage to pull back sketches from the brink with a few cheeky lines. The end song unnecessarily begs the forgiveness of an adoring audience, all of whom gleefully sing along with the unsubtle lyrics ‘you’re still the greatest show on the Fringe.’ Well folks, you can’t argue with fact.
