Katie Waissel and Wagner Fiuza Carrilho depart X Factor
Katie Waissel and Wagner Fiuza Carrilho were voted out of 'The X Factor' last night in a double eviction.
Katie Waissel and Wagner Fiuza-Carrilho have been eliminated from 'The X Factor'.
Controversial Katie - who was in the bottom two of the show five times in total - received the least number of votes on last night's results show (28.11.10) and was automatically removed from the TV talent show.
Wagner and former supermarket worker Mary Byrne then had a sing off to reveal who would be leaving the competition next, with the long-haired Brazilian performing a rendition of Nat King Cole's 'Unforgettable' while the Irishwoman sang 'This Is My Life' by Dame Shirley Bassey.
Louis Walsh - who mentored both the acts in the sing-off - was asked to vote first and opted to save Mary, noting the high importance of singing to her.
He said: "Mary, this is your life, so the act I am choosing to send home tonight is Wagner."
Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole followed suit, leading to Wagner leaving the show.
Although Simon did not cast a vote as the decision was a majority one, he noted it was for the best Wagner left the competition following campaigns by critics of the programme to keep voting for the unpopular singer.
He said: "Why I am happy with the decision is because there were people out there trying to derail this show for different reasons and what has happened tonight is that we have put this show back in the hands of the public."
Both Katie and Wagner seemed happy with the result, which put them out of the show before next week's semi-final.
Thanking her fans, Katie commented: "I just feel so grateful to have got this far," while Wagner threw his arms up and exclaimed, "I'm going home!" upon hearing Cheryl's decision to save Mary.
Next week's semi-final will see Cher Lloyd, One Direction, Mary Byrne, Rebecca Ferguson and Matt Cardle fight it out for their place in this year's final.
