Aiden Grimshaw has become the latest contestant to be eliminated from 'The X Factor'.
The 18-year-old hopeful lost out to controversial Katie Waissel - who was in the bottom two for the fourth time - in the show's sing-off last night, after judges Cheryl Cole, Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh failed to come to a decision on who should be sent home, sending the vote to deadlock.
After polling the lowest number of public votes, Aiden admitted he wasn't surprised to learn his fate, as a friend had informed him a twitter leak had shown he was in the bottom three.
He said: "You win some, you lose some. My friend texted me earlier and said there was a leak on twitter that I was third from bottom."
Dannii - who mentors Aiden - and Louis chose to save the young singer after his performance of Crowded House's 'Don't Dream It's Over', while Katie's mentor Cheryl paired up with Simon and chose to save the 24-year-old blonde, who sang a rendition of Christina Aguilera's 'Save Me From Myself'.
However, the Blackpool-based hopeful's elimination from the ITV1 show proved to be a surprise for fellow contestants One Direction, who vented their fury about his shock exit on twitter.
Louis Tomlinson said: "Not only was he one of my best friends, he was one of the best singers in the competition, yet people who can't sing a note in tune are still here. Wow. (sic)"
Meanwhile, Dannii Minogue revealed she and fellow acts Matt Cardle and Paije Richardson were sorry to see Aiden leave the competition.
She tweeted: "My utmost respect to Aiden. I have loved working with him on X Factor. TeamMinogue will miss him I and wish him the VERY BEST! Dx. (sic)"
