The Doctor will be reunited with his "wife" in 'Doctor Who' next year - before she is killed off.

River Song - played by Alex Kingston, 47 - was a hit with fans when she first appeared on the BBC show two years ago, and is set to return to the sci-fi series to spend time with her time-travelling spouse before meeting her fate.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "It's River Song who's for the axe."

River was last seen helping the Time Lord - then David Tennant, 39 - fight alien Vashta Nerada before stunning viewers by admitting she is his wife in the future.

At the time the feisty character claimed she would return, saying: "Then you will learn the truth about me and everything will change."

She has since re-appeared on the sci-fi series assisting the new Doctor, played by Matt Smith, fight a string of baddies including Daleks and Cybermen.

It had been rumoured that The Doctor's new sidekick Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) was to be killed off during next year's show, but sources claim it River is facing the chop instead.

A source said: "It's news to us. As far as we're concerned she is set to star in all 13 episodes."

It has also been revealed that next year's BBC One series will be split into six episodes in the spring and a final seven in the autumn.

This article makes no sense.

"River was last seen helping the Time Lord - then David Tennant, 39 - fight alien Vashta Nerada before stunning viewers by admitting she is his wife in the future."

Umm... what? As I recall, she was FIRST seen helping the Time Lord fight the Vashta Nerada before stunning viewers by DYING. And she never actually admitted to being his wife.

Jane has it exactly right. Also, River was seen in series 5 in the weeping angels episodes and the 2-part season finale. This "article" was obviously written by someone who has never seen the show and was writing blind without any attempt at research. Hello, even Wikipedia is more on target!

Who the HELL wrote this article? Did you PAY them? I hope not, because if you did, you have seriously been scammed.

First, River has NEVER admitted to being the Doctor's wife and certainly didn't do so in her David Tennant episodes (Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead). She knew the Doctor's name, which he can apparently only tell someone at a certain time in his life. Have people assumed that she's his wife because of this? Yes. They've also assumed she's his mother, sibling and even a future incarnation of the Doctor himself (not bloody likely, but still). She didn't stun anyone by revealing she was the Doctor's wife because she never did.

Furthermore, we've already seen her die. She dies in the David Tennant episodes. So your "big reveal" is a bunch of BS. The audience already knows how she dies and when. The mystery is the details in between.

My god. Do you really pay people to write uninformed articles? Because I'd love a job where I could just pull stuff out of my behind and get paid for it.
